Scenery was nice, the train cars are older. The day we went was very hot so the closed cars definitely had ac problems, it just couldn't keep up. And the open cars could have benefited from some misters or fans, but the overall experience was good. The drink selection is just beer (some ciders) and wine. For some reason I thought there was more of a bar situation, but that may have been just me not reading. Our group had a good time.
So the name (River Fox) is very misleading. At least in my experience. We saw maybe 1/8 a mile of river. The rest was cornfields and people's back yards. It was a hot day, Father's Day, and the climate control leaves A LOT to be desired. But, if you're going for a train ride experience, well, that's what it is. I think we would have been better off on Amtrak. At least they are well air conditiined and the Sacramento to Reno leg has gorgeous views and well equipped refreshment cars.
The River Fox Train was a great experience! The staff were quick to take care of any spills due to the moving of the train and were very professional. It was a fun time during these crazy times we're in. I'd recommend this experience to any wine lovers.
Really relaxing to enjoy a cold drink and a nice talk while taking the train ride... Really enjoyed the ride . The only downside is that the train goes south for about 40 minutes then stops and heads back north not changing tracks so you see the same view..
Very comfortable, friendly service. Seating is catch-as-catch-can so if you're with a group then it can be tough to find a location suitable for a bunch of people. Get there early to avoid such problems. We went on the happy hour trip. You get 4 tickets for beer/wine/hard ciders. The portions are small, but for a 2 hour trip it is in all rationality quite appropriate. I would suppose that they'd have liability problems if they got people shmammered on such a relatively short ride. The views are of the agricultural farmland of the area. Nice in the mid-late spring, however other times of year could be less optimal. The enclosed cars have air conditioning, but on a hot day they struggled to keep up. Outdoors may be cooler depending on a breeze.
