Shuttle bus from airport brought us here to pick up our Dollar Car Rental but it ended up being a Thrifty Car Rental. When I was ready to pay, they informed me that I had to purchase the Premium Car Insurance to be able to pay with my debit card. I told them I had already purchased Insurance online when I reserved the car. They told me that my insurance is from a 3rd party and if I wanted to use my debit card to pay, I MUST purchase their Premium Car Insurance. This is not right and not good business practice.
If I could, I would give 0 stars. The first car we were offered, the head lights were not working. In the second car the windows did not properly open/close. The third car had again no working head lights (in Iceland, where head lights are mandatory 24/7!). We now have been spending 1.5 hours here and still do not have a working car… never again.
Dropped car off yesterday- got there at 6:00 am when they verified for me on the phone that they would be open and shuttle would be running...... sign on the door said they would be open at 7.00- which costs us another 2100 ISK for a taxi. Left a personal item in the car- cannot get a response from them. Cost was significantly more than was quoted from USA- and yes, I understand the exchange rate. The staff was friendly- but unable to assist,
We had rental insurance through AAA, but they don't accept it. So we were charged $2200 for a "chip" in the windshield, their word on the incident report, not mine. The 1/4" chip was indeed there, but I have no idea if it was before we rented or not, who looks at the windshield for chips and why in the world would they need to replace the windshield for that insane price rather than just repairing the chip. No way to verify they are actually replacing the windshield. Very awesome vacation, ruined by Thrifty in the last hour. Hopefully we can get our money back from AAA, but I'm expecting them to question why in the world we paid $2200 for a windshield chip.
We had a wonderful experience with Renata. I highly recommend Thrifty. Upon arrival, we called and she came to pick us up within minutes. The car was reliable, and we even had to change plans a little bit and they took care of us through that process. She was the first smiling face in Iceland we got to see and started our vacation off wonderfully. Thanks! I appreciate great service, especially when it comes to car rentals. This was as easy and friendly as ever in my life!!!!!
