Favorite spot in California.
Nice to have lifeguards! Most of the beach is nice sand, portions are rock. Lots of fun watching surfers. Super bring able to camp right across the road.
Great spot to camp. Was an excellent view and great walking paths.
Visit when I was a kid at the age of 12 1988. Baseball teammate's who surf camped out in tents or slept on the ground in sleeping bags. Vehicle was close by and I think that's a good thing. Yes trains and the freeway sounds where loud at times. It depends on the time of the day. At night I felt like it was comfort like a water fall or city like noise. The train was loud at times during the day but at night the trains had more respect for campers and the morning it's your wake up call. Also during the day you don't really notice because you are having fun in the water or on some cool trails. My teammates and I went during the beginning of the spring season. So not many people there at the time. I don't know how it is now but by driving by couple of times on two different occasions, I saw it to be the same experience with great views. Only one thing I saw, that a lot more people know about. So just book a head of time for a spot and enjoy...Great experience for family's and surfers of all ages who enjoy outdoor activities...
We came to this campground because we couldn't find anything else down the coast. This is like camping in a parking lot at a tale gate party. I didn't mind the surfers (about 12 feet away...) in the spot next to us, there party was pretty mellow. It's the freight trains every 20 minutes, the army helicopters scanning the area (it's 10:05pm as I write this...). The beach is amazing! There's even a dog beach that is a proper beach. This is our second State campground in Southern California, and by far these are the worst campgrounds I have ever stayed in in my 25+ years of camping. If you're 15-25 years old and are here for surfing, this place is perfect. If your wanting to camp and enjoy your self, spend $65 and stay at a KOA.
