One of my favorite beach spots. I usually go to the campground area. During the week, there's not many people around. There are 6 cliff side trails that will lead you down to the beach. It's a wonderful view before sunset. Don't park on the numbered parking lanes unless your camping. You don't need to camp to park in the campground. There's plenty of parking. Restrooms and showers are available. There's an entrance fee of $15 per day. You can also go to the beach area which is about a mile north from the campground. I would recommend getting there before 8 a.m. on the weekends.
Campsites were very clean, they are the perfect size for a small family. The restrooms have no shower except for an outdoor one but they were also very clean, soap and toilet paper was supplied as well. The rangers were friendly and there is also a person hosted by the campground that drives down the sites selling $8 wood piles around dinner time. The beach is pet friendly, clean, and it has a nice trail on the way down with a pretty view. Once you arrive, there's an asphalt trail along the beach that takes you all the way to the end of the property. In conclusion, I would recommend this to anyone who wants a nice casual trip.
We regularly stay at San Onofre SB campground on our way to San Diego. It has quite unique layout and is not easily accessible by non- motor transport. There are quite high and extremely large bluffs in this area, so the ocean is pretty far below the camp. You hardly even hear it from the camp
Definitely a surfers beach, which is pretty cool! Very rocky though. And the life guards are not very nice. Maintenance guy was super cool and very helpful.
See lots of surfers here. Not much sand for families to hang out. Lots of rocks and pebbles. Great beach for walking around. Parking is $15 for a day pass. About 10 min walk from parking lot to the beachfront.
