Parking Black Sand Beach
Sunnubraut 31, Vík
Very beautiful. I think the parking area higher up nearer to the light house used to be labelled as 4x4 only, but it's recently been paved and a 2wd car can comfortably get up there. But its a short 30 walk from the lower car park with amazing views towards the black sand beach.
I’ve visited the lighthouse during March ‘16 then again recently in August ‘21 to see the puffin colony. Our first visit was in a Land Rover that took us within a 2 min walk to the lighthouse, but that route was closed on our recent visit. We parked at the bathrooms and “hiked/walked” up to the lighthouse. Not a strenuous walk, but longer than we realized. It was worth it to see the puffins flying and the view of the beach and glacier.
Some of the most striking views on the southern coast. The road in is best traversed in the sunlight. Very sharp turns.
Beautiful
Beautiful viewpoint especially during sunset. A little windy though so take care of your belongings.
