These Guys need to have a monument made in recognition of their food! Then they need to be arrested for hiding so effectively from so many of my friends who thought they'd tried every decent Restaurant along the Crown st strip! I've been there twice in 2 weeks now, the welcome is always warm for everyone, the food full of rich hearty European flavours. Comfort food at its best, the Beetroot soup is unmissable, everything served was perfectly traditional. If only I can restart the Royal Family of Poland! I'd demand they handover their Chef for Royal duties, and have her all to myself....I guess I've gotta be Polish aswell come to think of it 😪 Give this place a try if you appreciate food cooked, served and presented with love, you'll always count down the days till your return.
I can recommend this place:)
Google reviews failed us! I wish I read the low reviews first before heading there because I would be more prepared for the owner's dodgy way of selling overpriced items. Never order any specials of the day without asking for the price and double check if there's anything extra that comes with it. I haven't been to any Polish or Russian restaurant that serves pirogi without sour cream and I asked him if it comes with sour cream and he confirmed yes. Apparently it was $6 extra already on top of the overpriced pirogi. And the special of the day - goose - was $12 more expensive than the most expensive dish on the menu. ($47.5). No breakdown of bill is served, so even if you try to check the prices of food & drinks online, you won't find full menu. I understand they need to make money during these hard times, but we would definitely go there again (pirogi were nice!) if he didn't have that weird attitude trying to scam you and even blame you for inquiring things. That's already loss of business and just bad human behaviour taking advantage of naive locals who want to experience authentic Polish food. The owner should seriously re-consider his business approach.
My conscience has been fighting with me to do the right thing and tell you all about this amazing little Restaurant. I have been fighting the urge, thinking I should keep this little gem to myself. But the owners were so welcoming to an abrupt walk-in that I feel I should share their love aswell. The sauerkraut with mushrooms and beef dish i enjoyed, was a PERFECT comfort food meal on a chilly afternoon. The meat was perfectly seasoned and rolled, placed on a lovely puddle of creamy mushroom magic.
Delicious and elegant Polish food. We got a takeaway from here during lockdown and every dish travelled extremely well. The pierogi were some of the best I have had, we also got pork stew, potato pancakes and duck. Really friendly couple and a lovely little restaurant. Thank you for the beers & cake 😊
