Decent vegetarian Ramen. The broth is very good. I tried the Vegetarian Tan Tan Men. I love that there was a lot of Noodles in the Ramen. We sat outside in the nice weather. The food came out quickly. The host was helpful and knew if the broth is really vegetarian or not. The default spice level was pretty good and I didn't need to add anything more.
I like this place. Not mobbed like the more famous place in town, but a good selection of ramen with a good vibe. This is my go-to in San Mateo, which is a great ramen town
It's good. I got tonkatsu ramen with miso. Broth is nice and different from some places. The decor is pretty
Solid ramen spot in downtown San Mateo offering limited dine in during late 2021 and outside seating. The menu is laid out simply and has pictures of the different ramen bowls, much easier to know what you're getting compared to the old menu. My go to is the tonkotsu deluxe with chashu and stewed pork and egg included. You know it's a solid ramen spot when the egg is still gooey soft on the inside. The bowls are generous and quite filling even without an appetizer. The jazz records on the wall and the jazz music playing are just cherries on top.
Himawari is one of the few places that stay open a little later. Most ramen places in the area close early. The ramen here is good and solid but don't expect the best of the best, that's not their thing, they also don't charge a lot. The upside to this is the wait isn't anywhere near as long as the new trendy places and the food is consistently good. I also enjoy the Japanese style mabo tofu and curry but they don't have the pickles to go with it so you'll have to ask for ginger. Himawari has been here for a long time for a reason.
