The Belle Rive Boutique Hotel
99 Baan Phonehueang, Luang Prabang
A little bit of a walk from the main tourist path, but worth the trip. Some beautiful handicrafts including silver and wood work. Also some nice ceramics. Well designed and reasonably priced. Picked up a great book on the architecture and history of the town. + Supports a good cause.
Beautiful elegant pieces but opening hours are not as advertised. I went there on the morning of my departure to buy a vase I had seen earlier but it was not open.
Beautiful pieces and the profits go to fund education.
A nice place to find and buy special handicrafts and souvenirs in Luang Prabang town.
Ich must von 5 auf 4 Sterne gehen da: 31.1.2019 I've to add one more comment. We bought a beautiful gong in the shop. Flying out of the country from the International Airport in Luang Prabang on the day after we were stopped at Security check by the Laos authorities and asked for the official export paper for the Gong. We did not have one. The officials told that the shop should have handed us one or that we should have gone to get one at the government office in the city. I wanted to make them call the shop on the phone but they did not want to call. They made me to pay a fee of 50% the vendor price else they would confiscated the Gong. So I paid the amount and could take the Gong to Bangkok. But I did not receive a receipt although I asked several times for one. For me something seemed not correct. I would strongly suggest that you ask information in the shop how to export the Gong and to indicate where in town the official papers for exporting should be made (even though I think there is none such procedure). I believe there should be a better way than to pay KIP to the authority. 2.2.2019: I've to add one more comment. I wrote an e-mail about the occurrence to the shop. I got a very honest answer saying: `This is something that has been happening sometimes, and it is simply a scam from the airport security people.... exporting the gong is completely legal`. The shop also offered to re–pay me the fee by Paypal which is very honorable. So I'm convinced that this is an honest shop who invests in education projects. My hint: Put the gong in the checked baggage and it should not happen.
