Excellent historical place of the city of Cumaná, wonderful space to know very close to the church of Santa Inés
It is the first Ibero-American settlement located in the city of Cumaná, in the Es.Sucre Venezuela, that is why the city is called "PRIMOGÉNITA" of the American continent. A space full of history and life.
The Convent San Francisco, is not as many claim, rather we refer to the Royal Monastery Our Lady of the Holy Waters. It is a monastery and not a convent, because the Franciscan friars who built it had a cloister regime and also carried out mission work. The name of San Francisco refers to the square that was located in front of it.
This building is a silent witness of the Cumanian culture. In this convent worked the first University of Cumaná and Latin America, during the colony worked the chairs of philosophy, theology and Latin grammar; also functioning as a seminar in Cumaná. Created by Decree of the Provincial Legislative Assembly of 1812, after the Independence as National School of Cumaná where classes of theology, civil law and medicine were taught.
