We cannot recommend Dr Sergides enough. He is an excellent doctor and provides you the most pleasant experience anyone could possibly go through as a patient requiring a spinal surgery. He listens, cares, is incredibly smart and professional. We were very grateful that we chose him as our surgeon.

This is my fifth spine surgery and a very different experience. Yanni did a great surgical ob, but its not just about his undoubted surgical skills. Its also about how he treats and interacts with his patients and thats been great. He was genuinely concerned for my well being and for my wifes. He asks how we each are, he listens and doesnt just interrupt and assume. In short he treats us compassionately, he treats us like people. Some specific points The hospital staff all really like and respect him. Those nurses aren't idiots, if they respect someone thats a great indication of that persons qualities and skills. He doesnt boast about how many operations he had done, we liked that. He listened to my wifes queries and didnt just ignore her, we liked that too. He answered email questions, that was also a first and we loved that. He visits you in hospital and doesnt rush, that was a first. I would do anything to avoid spine surgery but if you need it, do yourself a favour and see Yanni.

Latest review - August 2021 It has been 13 months since my 2nd microdiscectomy surgery and I am still suffering from horrendous chronic pain, neuropathy and mechanical/physical dysfunction. After my last Google review, Yanni contacted me via email and some back and forward debate was had. Yanni then asked if I would give him another opportunity to further explore my condition. Desperate for answers from the individual who cut me open, I agreed. A set of scans and blood tests were ordered. When these failed to indicate the issue to him, he sent me to a Rhuematologist to chase a theory of SiJ Sacroillitis, which did not align to my symptoms at all, however I complied with his request. The Rheumatologist along with numerous professionals, including 2 addtional Neurosurgeons and 2 well respected Neurologists, dismissed the SiJ theory as not plausible. My nerve conduction and EMG studies point toward permanent nerve damage caused by the surgery. To date I have been unable to receive any diagnosis from Yanni nor any admission of surgical error, including an incidental dural tear from the first surgery. The diagnoses that I have received from others, Yanni vehemently disagrees with. Dismissing them as though these professionals have no idea what they're talking about. The reality is that these diagnoses do not suit his narrative because they point directly towards surgical error. This is however blatently obvious, as I have come out of this surgery with additional issues and pains that did not exist prior. As a previously very fit and healthy 36 year old to now suffering with severe mental issues and struggling to make it through each day of this life, I am broken. Some other reviewers may have had a good experience with Dr Yanni Sergides, mine however has been life changing and NOT in a positive way. I wish I never had surgery at all. My original 1 star review has been appropriately reinstated. Updated review - may 2021 Having reherniated since the initial surgery in March 2020, Dr Sergides convinced me a second surgery was the right course of action despite my hesitancy. The 2nd surgery was completed in July 2020 and from the moment I woke up I was in immense pain and had neurological symtoms and nerve pain that I had never experienced prior to this surgery. It has now been almost 10 months post the second operation and I am still in constant chronic pain 24 hours a day. I now have nerve pain down BOTH legs and chronic back pain. He has failed to properly disclose complications during the revision surgery making recovery strategies purely guess work. My life is miserable and Dr Sergides has offered zero diagnosis or admission of mishap during the surgery. I was advised that "time" would reduce my symptoms however it is nearly 10months post op and my symptoms are as bad as ever. This surgeon was great when things were going well but as soon as they weren't he basically wiped his hands clean of me..shipping me off to a pain management clinic to deal with it. I would personally never return to Dr Sergides nor would I recommend him to others. This has been a life changing error for me. Patient beware. Original review Wow what can I say..I've had numerous surgeries on various joints and limbs over the years and worked with a number of surgeons/orthos. Dr Sergides was an absolute pleasure to deal with from the initial appointment to his superb post operative care, following up with me numerous times to check in while I recovered. Aside from his professional and friendly bedside manner, the surgery (Microdiscectomy L5-S1) was a fantastic success. My debilitating sciatica and limp are gone. I am 6 weeks post op and have my life back and have not taken painkillers in the last 3 weeks. I can walk for 2 hours (including hills and stairs) completely pain free. The incision sites are immaculate and barely noticeable. I was so nervous having spinal surgery for the first time but I felt instantly that I was in the best care possible. Thank you so much Yanni, you are a master of your craft!! Best regards, Pete

There aren’t enough words to describe how grateful my family and I are for Dr Yanni Sergides. Not only did he successfully remove my tumour and stabilise my spine (with no pain post-surgery), but he showed genuine care and compassion throughout the whole journey, was so easy to talk to and extremely supportive. Dr Yanni and his team are extremely efficient, and all of the medical professionals who know of him speak so highly of him — and it’s so well deserved. I highly recommend Dr Yanni — you’ll be in wonderful hands. Thank you, Dr Yanni. — Rosie
