Two days ago, he told me with my UK passport I could not get a visa on arrival to Vietnam, and that he could arrange one for 50 dollars in two days. Fortunately I did not listen to him and yesterday I crossed the border at Xa Xia, and got VOA with no problems at all. He's a cheeky shyster, be aware!
Tour as advertised, full day tuk-tuk sight-seeing plus boat ride for river sunset. Guide spoke enough English to explain where we are and why it is of interest. Minus one because salt lakes are not worked during wet season, could have been pointed out during booking, and driver had not as much water as we wanted, different to what was told us when booking. This also brings me the point why I am writing this review. Our driver got 20 dollar for the full day, the agent took 50 for himself. Of course the poor guy (driver) couldn't afford to pay for all that water. Therefore, I advise people not book through an agent but ask the drivers personally. Give them 30 dollar for the whole day and they will show you all the nice spots in Kampot or anywhere else. This way they have enough to cover their expenses, make a living and you can feel like the king for saving a lot of money.
The owner is very friendly, accommodating, serious. You can rent bicycles in very good condition and very well maintained. And wise advice. I recommend!!
The driver was about 20 minutes late, which can happen to anyone. Then we first went to refuel at a very rapid pace and he washed his motorized taxi. Then it went on rapidly towards the pepper plantation. Now it has to be said that the road is very badly damaged. But the driver didn't let that deter him and overtook everyone else. It was therefore faster than the giant Toyotas and the like, which, thanks to their shock absorbers and suspension, are considerably more comfortable to ride than the pure leaf suspension of the motor taxi. We continued on a sandy road that was badly affected by the rainy season. Which I can't blame the driver, of course, if I point out several times that he would like to drive slower because I don't feel like being thrown out of the motor taxi and that it gives me back pain when he goes through 30cm deep holes at 30mph nails without effective suspension. The return trip was much more pleasant because we are only back the road at 15kmh. Next it went to a cave. It was ok, but nothing special. Now it was off to Kep in the direction of the beach, where I didn't want to go but ok. Now the tour seemed over because we are back to the travel agency. He gave me to understand that I should get out, I ask about the salt fields. He sugar his shoulders and just smiled at me. The owner was there and I described the situation to him. I didn't speak 5 sentences with the owner because my driver intervened in Khmer. The owner made me understand that I was a liar. Because the driver claims that he drove very slowly and carefully and actually wanted to go straight to the salt fields. Since I don't let myself be called a liar and didn't really get a word in it, I wished for a nice day and left. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the salt fields anymore, but I took back pain as a souvenir.
We booked a half day tour of Kampot / Countryside. Cave, pepper plantation, kep, fisher village and salt fields for $ 15. The English speaking driver spoke only 5 words of English and was an hour late or only when we had the company called. The pepper plantation was different from the one we actually wanted to see, although when we booked we asked if it was the right one. We could not see the salt fields either because it rained heavily the days before, for which nobody can do anything, but nobody told us. The driver was very nice, but the tour overall was very disappointing.
