We visited here for the first time the other day and had a great experience. My son is a train FANATIC and he was enthralled. The gift shop has a lot of very cool things and is not overpriced! The woman working in there was very nice. She let us know that her docent, Barney was roaming around in a golf cart and we could find him to let us into the train barns. We found him and he made this a really special experience. He took us on an hour and a half long tour in which my 4 year old son was engaged and interested the whole time, and answered all my son’s questions (and boy there were a lot!) and told us facts and history of all the trains. Very cool. The staff helped make this an amazing experience as well as the large collection of trains they have being also amazing!! Our fave railroad museum so far. πŸ™

Amazing museum with the largest collection of trains and streetcars West of the Mississippi. We went for the Grizzly Flats exhibit, featuring two steam trains donated by Ward Kimball, animator for Walt Disney, and inspiration for the Disneyland railroad. Volunteers are great. Ken S gave us a tour of the exhibit and we got to go aboard a passenger car from the 1890s. We had a great experience, but be prepared for a hot, dry environment since it is in Perris, CA. We plan to go back for the Thomas the Tank Engine visit in November when it should be cooler. This museum is run by volunteers, so with additional revenue it would be even better.

This place was a pleasant surprise. For $12 per adult ($9 for kids, I believe), there's unlimited rides on a couple of vintage trains, plenty of trains and memoribilia to look at and the gift shop is decent. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. Great place to take the family. Check the website before going, there might be events on the weekends. Highly recommended!

They nice train exhibits. When we visited, parts of the museum were closed. Not sure why. Entrance was free. Good visit for small children. Thomas the train is not part of the regular exhibits. We were told next time Thomas visits will be in November.

Took our grandson to the Southern California Railway Museum for his birthday, along with his 3 cousins. We had an awesome time! The kids loved riding the trolleys and the train, as well as playing on the caboose and in the play areas. The staff and volunteers were so friendly and knowledgeable, we all learned interesting information about trains and their place in California history! A great place to take the whole family!!!
