I had an incident yesterday, where someone called the police on me. I was metal detecting between the sidewalks and curbs around Santa Paula, and I did get permission to metal detect three homes. Three police cars showed up and one officer told me to put down my headphones, as I had already left my metal detector and shovel on the ground. He then told me to move. away from my tools. I followed his orders closely. It didn't take long for the police to discover I had NOT been digging on private property without permission, as the complaint suggested. The police were courteous, and told me I could keep metal detecting the parkways, asked me if I found anything interesting, and "thanked me" for being cooperative. Another positive encounter with a police department's officers. Folks, whenever you have an encounter with law enforcement, If you follow their instructions, you may be pleasantly surprised. Thank you Santa Paula police.

I was in a store on a Sunday afternoon looking around when I accidentally put down my phone on top of a shelf and forgotten all about it. I didn't realize that I didn't have the phone until 2 hours later. I looked everywhere inside my house and went back to the store hoping that someone turned it in. No luck. Since I had no phone to call my number, I had my niece call the number several times but no answer. She tried to track my phone using "Find My Friends" app and I tried "Find my iPhone" online but someone already turned it off so we couldn't track it. Four hours later, I tracked it again and found out that my phone was in Santa Paula. Whoever found it must have turned it on. I didn't have to think twice, I drove to Santa Paula and went to their Police station with my husband. Santa Paula Police Department doesn't have an after hours walk-in office nor anyone answering the non emergency number. I waited on their parking lot for someone to come out to help me. One officer did by the name of Officer Potter. I introduced myself, told him that I was from Oxnard and that I needed help to get my phone back. I showed him the app where my phone was and Officer Potter told me he would help me get my phone back. I followed Office Potter by car to the known location of my phone. He went in to their property, knocked on the door, questioned the guy that answered the door if they had found a phone, asked him if he was in Oxnard and if he was at that store where I left my phone that day. He couldn't remember about the phone but he remembered that he was in Oxnard and at that store that day. The man went inside and few seconds later, the wife handed him the phone. But before Office Potter left the property, he suggested that if in the future, they find something that doesn't belong to them to turn it in to the Police Dept. Office Potter left the property and handed me my phone back. Thank you Officer Potter for helping us last night! What you did was beyond your call of duty and we are very grateful of what you did for us. You are a "Rockstar"!

The worst. They obviously have something against the people of the city. By no means is every cop here a bad cop. It's simply a terrible station with a handful of... bad.. cops.
