DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Houston Downtown

Decent hotel however the customer service was terrible. The couple who was checking in before us was complaining and the couple checking out after us the next morning as well. The staff was completely unwelcoming. We didn’t mind our room and thought about extending a night. When I asked about prices on extending I wasn’t offered any specials or even a smile at the front desk. We changed our mind obviously and checked out. “Breakfast” was poor and the valet takes forever!

Room and staff are great. Remodel is not keeping to standard. Amenities are really suffering!

Renovations were going near lobby/main entrance but more importantly the rooms are old and did not look like Hilton hotel. There's no good food option within the hotel. Staff seemed polite but offered only an hour extension saying the hotel was completely booked. The night before I called they said not available, morning staff said an hour extension is available. Online rooms were available, just saying did not seem right.

I was there for a one day conference so I didn't stay in a room. The valet service did well considering the huge volume when the conference ended. The meeting rooms and chairs were comfortable. The food was pretty average but expectations shouldn't be very high for food at a conference. Overall it was a good conference experience.

My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel this past weekend on the night of our 5 year anniversary. I also had plans to pop the big question on that night. I called ahead to the hotel a few days before simply to request a room that was higher in the hotel so we could have a better city view. The view was my favorite part about staying at this hotel the few times I had stayed before. They told me they would see what they could do and I figured that was about as much as I could expect being that it was such an odd request. When we arrived to the hotel, I was happy to find that we were staying on the 19th floor(I'm sure the 20th floor being the top floor, is some type of deluxe penthouse suite or something like that.) Upon arriving to the room, we were surprised with a bottle of champagne waiting on us, chocolate covered strawberries and rose petals laid all over the bed and room. It almost killed the surprise of the proposal, as I we had gone to the room before we headed out to dinner, but I was able to play it off as a simple anniversary surprise. I thought it was amazing that the hotel staff went out of their way to go above and beyond on our special night. We have decided that this may be come our annual destination for a simple night away from the children and a night out on the town for mommy and daddy. Thank you for helping to make our night one that can not be forgotten.
