I have used Lion on two occasions and found their service to be excellent. We were met at the airport with the paperwork completed quickly and efficiently. The car provided was of a fair condition and clean. The price was very competitive and the staff very pleasant. I plan to use Lion on my next visit to Antigua.

Lion is as corrupt as the Antiguan police force. He extorted us for +$800 while we were on the island for a recent vacation. We were robbed while on the island. Two purses were stolen while we were on a local beach and the car keys were inside one of the purses. Lion threatened to call immigration and not let us leave the country if we didn’t pay the cost to re-key the car. He subsequently had the police knock on our door and they too threatened serious consequences if we didn’t pay the +$800. I call that extortion!

I am giving one star because it is not possible to give a rating of absolute zero. Filthy, decrepit Jeep, stank of stale cigarette smoke and other unmentionables, just short of 80k miles on the clock, if the clock is to be believed, right hand drive (wrong side for Island apparently they ship in clapped out jeeps from the US), non working seat belts, torn and worn interior, front seats jammed so that the rear was inaccessible except via the ripped roof, rear door was damaged and could be opened. Ripped roof that not even the rep could fit properly, only started intermittently, would have failed the MOT in the UK on multiple counts. The “Owner” is an uncouth, ill tempered, loud and obnoxious woman with the customer skills of a cornered rat, hiked the price when we told them come and recover it and including an extra day at a premium rate because her staff were apparently unavailable to come out and recover the thing. Spoke to various holiday reps on resort about the problem, none of them will touch Lion Car Rentals and, when they stopped laughing, the gist was that on a holiday island you can stay in business if you can catch enough people just once, that sums it up! Rep advised us when she came to take the vehicle away, at our request, that she would have the cost of fuel deducted from her wages if we didn’t give her money. Shame on Elite Island Resorts (Galley Bay etc.) for getting into bed with dross like this, whatever the deal it is reflects very badly on Elite Island Resorts.
