Ideal for hiking and good history lesson.
An outstanding walk with spectacular 360 views of the whole island. Well worth the effort. I know of two ways to enter Greencastle Hill. Both are listed in the Greencastle Megaliths review. The walk up is moderate. I am in my 50's and walk every morning. I had to stop once to catch my breath. Maybe about 8 min of hard walking then the site is in rolling hills easy to walk through. It looked like the grass had been burned a few months back and if the grass were high you would be best to stay on the road from the Limestone Quarry. Besides the amazing view, are the Megaliths. They call them Stonehenge of the Caribbean. There is an amazing alter straight out of Harry Potter, and a Stella still in very good condition. In its time this must have been an incredible place under a clear star filled night.
I drove to a certain point then I parked to take a nice walk. Its full of a lot of green! There were a calming sensation about the place that I got which I love very much
It's a very mystical place.
The hike was well worth the spectacular scenic views. Green castle Hill is one of the more famous hills in Antigua, since it hosts the even more renown Megaliths. My lack of local knowledge in the form of a tour guide or having any familiarity with the area caused me not to take the "Beaten Path". During my accent to the summit I had a chance to reflect on life, I knew I will never take that same path again. The views of neighboring Jennings and Jolly Harbor were quite astounding. The landscape photos obtained tells some of the story. The Megaliths themselves were quite an experience to behold in person. I felt myself striking that off a bucket list that I did not know I had. It turned out to be a somewhat "Religious Experience" for me in many ways. I would recommend not visiting during the sweltering midday sunshine.
