The real Katla collapsed. The one they take you to now is nothing like the photos. Pretty much just a tunnel maybe ten meters long.

Had a fun visit with the tour company from Vik. Guide was great, interesting things to see, good little hike along the base of the glacier. Sadly the large cave had collapsed earlier. We did get to go into a smaller cave - very cool!

It left us with mixed feelings. The area is stunning, but the cave is not there. Apparently it collapsed during the summer and the only place possible to visit is a small bluish tunnel nearby. We went on an organised tour, because we read that the land around it is private and it's not allowed to go on our own, but the tour was not worth the price for how little we actually saw there. Much more beautiful caves can be found in Vatnajokull National Park, especially the one called Sapphire Ice Cave

The jeep ride was cool, the guide had a good sense of humour, the little 10 minute hike to the cave hopping on the glacier in cramp-ons was fun. The cave is super cool, but beware it’s a very tiny cave, not like you see in those amazing photos where people are standing sureou der by gorgeous blue ice. Ok? Otherwise you’ll have a great experience. Also it’s melting like crazy. See my photos - this is all you get there. Some selfies at the entrance. Manage your expectations 😃
