We've done ice cave excursions with Katlarack two times now and both times were nothing short of amazing. The staff was very accommodating for our children to come along, and the guides were knowledgeable and keep you safe. The scenery is incredible too, in an "off the beaten path" area. Our guide was Bjorn, and he did an awesome job and made for a really fun, unforgettable day.
Absolutely, hands down, one of the best things we’ve done in Iceland. The drive is great, the tour guide is great, the landscape is stunning, and hiking the glacier is amazing! Cannot wait to come back to do it again. Pricey, but 10000% worth it!
Our ice cave tour in July 2021 was epic! Our guide, Thor, was as friendly, professional, and helpful as possible. So cool to not only see such amazing natural wonders but also learn about the power of the Katla volcano. Very pleased! Highly recommend!
We have experienced an exciting and safe ice cave tour with guide Richard. Besides a warm welcome, we were given interesting insights into the Katla glacier and its specifics. The provided equipment was well maintained and booking online in advance was easy and fast. In the ice cave, we were enabled to experience it and take enough photos.
This is an expensive tour (5x the price of a whale watching tour we did) and the caves were disappointing as the largest cave had collapsed, leaving only two smaller caves which are in formation proces to be explored. Nature is nature of course and I think the tour company does not hold any blame here, just be aware this might be the case and ask info before you book. Worse (and the main reason for my mediocre score) is that we were standing outside of the cave for a considerable amount of time whilst others of the group were shooting pics in the cave without “animation” for the waiters. Everyone got unlimited time except the last couple to go in, as when they were in for a couple of minutes, the guide just started walking back. Even after telling him multiple times they were still in, his reply was “they will come”. I find this dangerous and unacceptable for a glacier trip. I have informed the company about this and they have reacted correctly and will check to implement our comments towards the future.
