kligardur Guesthouse (part of Tindalstoll Hotel) What a nice place to stay. You could tell they wanted to make the place homey and it was great having a kitchen where we could cook a meal. Only tough part was we were on the third floor with steep steps. Since I’m in my late 60’s that was a bit of a challenge. They had a nice dining room with a couch where my son and I hung out for a couple of hours after driving all day. Our room even had a television which is rare in most places we’ve found and they even had a couple of English speaking stations. We didn’t watch TV but it was nice to have the option. We shared a bathroom with several other rooms but it was no problem at all as there were 3 bathrooms available for guests on the second and third floors. Breakfast was at the hotel a few blocks away and was very nice. The people running the guesthouse and restaurant were very nice and helpful. Sadly there were guests who left a mess (which my son and I cleaned up (and someone had broken one of the toilets) but I reported and they came immediately to close off that bathroom to prevent any further damage. I was glad too because seeing the mess the next morning I have no doubt the guests who left the messes in the kitchen/dining area would have left a horrible mess in a broken toilet without a thought. It’s sad when you see such inconsiderate people. We cleaned the dishes and dried and put them all away and I separated the trash and recycles for the guesthouse cleaners to helpfully save them added chores. I would highly recommend this location because even though the beds were not as comfortable as many we’ve slept in we slept beautifully I think due to location and hospitality of the people who welcomed us we had the best sleep we’ve had while in Iceland.
Our room was very small and had no washbasin. Great kitchen, also has a nice dining and socialising place for a group (that is if you're part of the group and don't want to sleep early ;) )
Small room but enough, nice new bathroom, quick WiFi
Great for it's price and very cozy, was presently surprised. Recommend rooms 1 and 2
This review is of the Mikligarður Guesthouse. We had a triple room with shared bathroom and lived to tell the story. There is a spacious well equipped kitchen on the second floor, bathrooms on each floor, and it was very clean. The rooms were not small nor large. The linen was clean. No laundry facilities, but there was a sink in the bathroom, and a visible nearby clothesline. Breakfast, included, at the parent hotel was delightful, especially the smoked fish. Nothing we encountered in Iceland was cheap but this place was not expensive. The local restaurants are dismal, costly, but we were able to gag down what they served.
