It's a fountain, one of eleven, located in the centre of Solothurn. Because it's a fountain it doesn't do much except spout water and look pretty for some of the many tourists who visit to take a picture of. It is well maintained and the water is drinkable. Ideal for hot day when you don't have any money for a real drink!

The Samson fountain is one of the eleven fountains of Solothurn and the simplest of the five that Laurent Perroud made for the city in the mid-sixteenth century - the other four are those of Justice and those of Saints Ours, Mauricio and Jorge. -. Its typology is the classic one of the Switzerland of the time, with a large basin in the center of which a polychrome column rises, topped by a sculpture, from which the pipes from which the water comes out. In this case, a Samson in curious clothing is represented who, inspired by God, defeats and tears the lion that has attacked him, according to the biblical passage (Judges 14, 6).
