Churches suck
Ogre Evangelical Lutheran Church was formed in the 20th century. At the beginning: in 1908, the inhabitants of the Ogre summer house colony decided to build the Forest Chapel. In 1909, the parish priest of the Salaspils parish, Voldemars von Huns, bought a plot of land on behalf of the parish and commissioned a project for a church building for the architect of Riga, Edgars Frisendorfs (1881-1945). The 300-seat forest chapel was a wooden structure and stylistically reminiscent of the sacred buildings of the South Bohemian and Swiss regions. During World War I, the chapel burned down. In 1927, the parish of Ogre summer house district was founded and the need for a church arose. The church in the late neo-Gothic traditions was built according to the project of Haralds Kundziņš, which was modified by engineer Andrejs Kēse. During the year, a church with 422 seats was built on the ruins of the Forest Chapel. On August 31, 1930, the church was consecrated. The church bell (Ø 0.78 m, 200 kg) was cast in Riga in the Švenna bell foundry. It is decorated with the inscription “I call alive, weep the dead. Ogre City Church during the Winter Festival. Case from J.C.Schwenn. Riga, 1930 ” The altarpiece donated by the first head of the congregation, Andrejs Kēses, was made by Jānis Šēnbergs after the work of the Latvian old master Kārlis Hūns “The Second Coming of Christ”. In 1940, the church sounded the sounds of an organ. During the Soviet years, the fate of the parish and also the church building was endangered. In the 1970s, only 50 people were registered in the congregation, but fewer than 20 attended services. The church was also used by the Catholic congregation for its services, and after 1975 also by the Baptist congregation. Since 1999, services have been held in the church only by the Lutheran congregation. Architectural monument of local significance.
Very nice.
There is a large car park nearby. The church has a limited children's corner with toys.
A cozy church, the pastor speaks well and preaches.
